Celtics save $2.7 million, cut Davison’s tail Thaisiambet

Thaisiambet Celtics release guard J.D. Davison ahead of 2025-26 season, saving $2.7 million in deadline Thaisiambet

The Boston Globe reports that the Celtics exercised Davison’s team option at the end of June to keep him with the team for next season, but the terms were non-guaranteed, so when the team was intent on saving Salary Cap, they opted to move on the 22-year-old backcourt.

The move will help Boston avoid the Tier 2 luxury tax penalty, giving the team more flexibility to trade.

The 53rd overall pick in the 2022 draft was selected by the Celtics after playing one year in college at Alabama. The first two years of his career were a two-way contract, which was later converted to a more regular one-year contract before the end of the 2024-25 regular season. Thaisiambet
