Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery, 28, says 2025 will be the decisive season for the Lions as they look to move forward after two consecutive playoff failures, ESPN reported.

“Everyone is sick of the word ‘close’,” Montgomery said. “It’s cool to get close at first, but you don’t want to feel comfortable getting close all the time.” 

‘That’s not something you want to be known for, especially when you know you have the players you have on this team. You want to finish it. So this is our year, the year of judgment and the year we choose that we have to finish it.’ 

The Lions nearly reached their first-ever Super Bowl appearance in 2023, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFC Championship Game and were eliminated in the Divisional Playoffs in 2024 despite finishing first in the NFC with a 15-2 record.

“This is probably the time when I feel the most hungry because I feel like a lot of people forget that I’m on the offense,” the 28-year-old running back said. “So I’m not here to prove anybody wrong. I’m here to prove myself right and be the best teammate I can be.”
