Phoenix Suns assistant head coach Kevin Young will stay with the franchise on a new $2 million-a-year deal, making him the NBA’s highest-paid assistant coach, ESPN reported Saturday.

The Suns are committed to keeping Young on new head coach Frank Vogel’s staff and have made a commitment that will prevent the 41-year-old from following former Suns head coach Monty Williams’ move to the Detroit Pistons. 

Young is one of the league’s top assistant coaches and was one of the final three candidates interviewed for the head coaching job before Vogel’s job went to him. The 41-year-old assistant coach also has a strong relationship with Phoenix star guard Devin Booker and was strongly encouraged within the organization to work with Vogel, who is finalizing a five-year deal as the new head coach. kindee1688
