The New York Giants made a surprise move by trading up to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25, becoming the only quarterback selected in the first round of the 2025 draft, joining Tennessee Titans No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, per ESPN. sudpung168
The Giants selected Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick before the Giants sent the No. 34 and 99 overall picks, as well as a 2026 third-round draft pick, in a trade with the Houston Texans for the No. 25 overall pick, to join the quarterback room with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito.
“He’s in a really good spot where he can come in and sit behind two or three experienced quarterbacks and learn and not necessarily get thrown out right away. I think from a developmental perspective and the ability to grow, I think it’s the perfect situation for a young quarterback,” Giants general manager Joe Chen said.
The Giants’ decision to select Dart came as quite a surprise after the Blue Devils spent months watching Colorado quarterback Shaeder Sanders and even held a private workout last week in front of head coach Brian DeBoll and other Giants players.
‘Yeah, the coach texts me a lot,’ Dart said. ‘And I think about two weeks ago, he went quiet, so I didn’t know what to expect. But no, I felt like, I just felt good about it. I just felt good about it. I just felt like it was going to work.
Shane added, “Yes, we went through a complicated process again and we moved up for Jaxson. We were very excited to get him, but ultimately, when we went through the process and ranked them, this is how we ranked them, and Jaxson, we felt the value was consistent with what we saw in this player.” ( sudpung168 )
